An Evening in Missoula is a live performance of four original songs by Arwen Baxter that takes place during a summer sunset in Missoula, MT.

The Challenge

Arwen was looking to make a live session to help promote her brand, and create more content that exists alongside her music.

The Process

For this live session we determined a major theme of this was going to be a performance that slowly turns to evening, as the songs reflect this transition to evening.

One of the biggest challenges was to find a location that had a single tree and field behind it without having too much urban development behind her. I visited a lot of locations, but I finally landed on this location for the live session.

Following that, I worked with my Art Director Jessica to determine the set decoration and costumes of each song in the live session. For this we went through each of the four songs and asked ourselves what is the story of this song and how can the art design elevate that story.

Furthermore, the decision to place the main wide was difficult because we needed to take into account the path the sun would take as it would set, but we were able to find the perfect balance.

For the edit, there was a lot of work into how the color grade would look for each song, and we wanted to make sure it changed and transitioned as the sun was setting.

The Result

Arwen now had a live session for four of her songs, and it helped deepen her brand as an artist.
